On the occasion of the group show Je suis là, exploring the history of self-representation, Thomas Dupal recreates HYPERSCULPTURE (2021), a solo performance examining the role of images and words bornes from smartphones in the construction of dystopian masculine identities, in a sculptural staging conceived with and built by artist Tanguy Poujol.
At its centre, a sculptural object conceived as a modernist manmaxxing module, in echo to the exhibition space —formerly a modernist furniture wholesale company — designed to achieve ascension, the stated goal of looksmaxxing, an emerging current within the manosphere driving men toward unrealistic beauty ideals defined by pseudoscientific criteria and social media metrics.
